About converting TIFF to BMP
Convert TIFF to BMP for applications that require raw uncompressed bitmap data. Layered or multi-page TIFF content flattens into the simplest pixel container legacy software can consume.
TIFF is the archival and print industry standard, created in 1986. It is a flexible container that magazines, photographers, and scanners have relied on for decades. BMP is one of the oldest Windows image formats, dating to the early days of Microsoft Windows. It stores pixels with essentially no compression.
Both formats share the same compression philosophy, so the conversion is mainly about compatibility and file size rather than a change in image quality behaviour.
When to use TIFF vs BMP
Choose BMP when legacy Windows applications, pixel-art editing, machine-vision pipelines, raw texture data, and software that predates modern formats. Keep TIFF when print production, high-end photography, scanned documents, medical imaging, and any workflow where quality matters more than file size.
On strengths: TIFF brings print-shop acceptance, multi-page documents, layer preservation, and lossless storage that survives repeated edits without generational quality loss. BMP brings zero decoding complexity, bit-exact fidelity, and acceptance by legacy industrial, scientific, and manufacturing software that refuses compressed formats.
The trade-off: Files are far too large for web use, browsers cannot display TIFF natively, and most consumer platforms treat it as an exotic format. Extremely large files — a single screen-sized BMP can be several megabytes — plus weak transparency support and poor handling of photographic content.
One more consideration: TIFF is tuned for photographic imagery full of gradients and fine detail, while BMP performs best on graphics with flat colors, hard edges, or limited palettes. Moving a photograph into the graphic-oriented format tends to look worse per byte than staying in the photo-oriented one.
How to convert TIFF to BMP
The converter runs entirely in this browser tab — there is no upload, no account, and no file-size harvesting. Follow these steps:
- Drop your TIFF files onto the converter above, or click the drop zone to browse. Up to 20 files can queue at once, each up to 25 MB.
- The output defaults to BMP. Adjust the quality slider if the format is lossy, or resize/crop first if you also want to change dimensions.
- Press Convert. Decoding and encoding happen in browser memory using Canvas — your pixels never leave the device.
- Preview the result, then download it individually or grab the whole batch as a ZIP.

Tips for a clean TIFF → BMP conversion
- Work from the highest-quality TIFF source you have. Converting from an already-compressed copy stacks compression artifacts on top of each other.
- You can re-export BMP as many times as needed without losing data — ideal if the file will be edited repeatedly.
- Flatten transparency carefully: check the preview for white or black halos along previously transparent edges before downloading.
- Check the preview at 100% zoom. If fine detail (text, foliage, fabric) looks smeared, raise the quality slider or reconsider the target format.
Frequently asked questions
Is this TIFF to BMP converter free?+
Yes. All image conversions are completely free with no sign-up, no watermarks, and unlimited usage.
Are my images uploaded to a server?+
No. All conversion happens locally in your browser via the HTML5 Canvas API. Your files are never uploaded or stored anywhere.
Will converting TIFF to BMP reduce quality?+
BMP is a lossless format, so the converted file stores every decoded pixel exactly — quality does not degrade during conversion, and you can re-save it repeatedly without generational loss.
Can I convert multiple TIFF files at once?+
Yes — drop up to 20 files into the converter and they will all be processed in a single batch. Each file can be up to 25 MB. The batch downloads as a ZIP, or you can save results individually from the preview.
What happens to transparent areas when converting to BMP?+
BMP cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are flattened onto a solid background during conversion. If you need to keep transparency, output to PNG, WEBP, or AVIF instead — both are available in the format picker.
