About converting TIFF to JPEG
Convert TIFF to JPEG for smaller file sizes suitable for web and sharing. Print-resolution scans and 16-bit masters become manageable attachments and uploads, with quality 90+ keeping the result visually indistinguishable from the original.
TIFF is the archival and print industry standard, created in 1986. It is a flexible container that magazines, photographers, and scanners have relied on for decades. JPEG (often written JPG) has been the standard photographic format since the early 1990s. Almost every camera, phone, and image viewer in existence can read it.
This conversion crosses compression philosophies: TIFF is lossless and JPEG is lossy. That matters for file size, editability, and how the image behaves if you open and save it again later.
When to use TIFF vs JPEG
Choose JPEG when photographs, images for email and documents, stock photos, print uploads, and anywhere a viewer or system refuses newer formats. Keep TIFF when print production, high-end photography, scanned documents, medical imaging, and any workflow where quality matters more than file size.
On strengths: TIFF brings print-shop acceptance, multi-page documents, layer preservation, and lossless storage that survives repeated edits without generational quality loss. JPEG brings excellent file-size reduction for photographs and complex images, tiny historical footprint, and guaranteed compatibility with print labs, email clients, and legacy software.
The trade-off: Files are far too large for web use, browsers cannot display TIFF natively, and most consumer platforms treat it as an exotic format. No transparency support, and every re-save removes a little more quality. Text and hard edges develop visible "mosquito" artifacts faster than photographic detail does.
How to convert TIFF to JPEG
The converter runs entirely in this browser tab — there is no upload, no account, and no file-size harvesting. Follow these steps:
- Drop your TIFF files onto the converter above, or click the drop zone to browse. Up to 20 files can queue at once, each up to 25 MB.
- The output defaults to JPEG. Adjust the quality slider if the format is lossy, or resize/crop first if you also want to change dimensions.
- Press Convert. Decoding and encoding happen in browser memory using Canvas — your pixels never leave the device.
- Preview the result, then download it individually or grab the whole batch as a ZIP.

Tips for a clean TIFF → JPEG conversion
- Work from the highest-quality TIFF source you have. Converting from an already-compressed copy stacks compression artifacts on top of each other.
- Aim for quality 85–90. Above that, file size climbs for almost no visible gain; below 70, banding and blockiness appear around edges.
- Flatten transparency carefully: check the preview for white or black halos along previously transparent edges before downloading.
- Keep the original file. Even lossless conversions can subtly change color profiles, and the source is your safety net.
Frequently asked questions
Is this TIFF to JPEG converter free?+
Yes. All image conversions are completely free with no sign-up, no watermarks, and unlimited usage.
Are my images uploaded to a server?+
No. All conversion happens locally in your browser via the HTML5 Canvas API. Your files are never uploaded or stored anywhere.
Will converting TIFF to JPEG reduce quality?+
Because TIFF is lossless, the conversion starts from perfect pixel data. JPEG uses lossy compression, so the encoder discards information it considers imperceptible — keep the quality slider between 85 and 100 for a result that is visually indistinguishable from the original.
Can I convert multiple TIFF files at once?+
Yes — drop up to 20 files into the converter and they will all be processed in a single batch. Each file can be up to 25 MB. The batch downloads as a ZIP, or you can save results individually from the preview.
What happens to transparent areas when converting to JPEG?+
JPEG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are flattened onto a solid background during conversion. If you need to keep transparency, output to PNG, WEBP, or AVIF instead — both are available in the format picker.
